Facial Implants
Introduction
Facial implants are used to improve and enhance facial contours. Frequently, these implants will help provide a more harmonious balance to your face and features so that you feel better about the way you look. They may help bring the chin or cheekbones into balance with the rest of the face.
Who Are The Best Candidates For Facial Implant?
All age groups may benefit from their use depending on the original problem.
What Are The Risks involved?
Problems rarely occur, but you need to be informed about such possibilities. Infection can occur with any operation. Rejection of the implants is another possibility.
The Surgery
Your operation will take place in a hospital under general anesthesia.
Chin Surgery
Insertion of a chin implant may take anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half. The small incision to create the pocket and insert the implant is placed inside the mouth (along the lower lip).
It’s normal to experience some temporary difficulty with smiling and talking. Blue marks may be visible around the chin and neck. Stitches used to close the intra-oral incision usually dissolve within about 10 days.
Cheek Surgery
Cheek implant surgery also takes between one hour and one hour thirty minutes. An incision will be made inside your upper lip. A pocket is then formed and an implant is inserted.
Your ability to move your mouth and lips may be diminished temporarily. Stitches used to close the incisions inside your mouth usually dissolve within about 10 days.
Finally,
You may be surprised to find that most people won’t recognize that you’ve had facial implant surgery – only that you look better.
